
San Martino di Ocre, L' Aquila, Abruzzo, ItalySan Martino di OcreThe highest inhabited area is San Martino d'Ocre (1100m) which can be reached from San Felice through the plateau of the Rocche. The parish church documented in 1280 was radically modified in the 16th century. The external porch is constituted by two extensions (but revealed only in 1848 after removing a 17th century flat building decoration) and a bell tower. The lunette over the small entrance presents an interesting fresco illustrating the unusual image of Mary and child surrounded by angels. Over the main entrance there is the following inscription: MVXXV (1525) of the 4th of April. Among the masterpieces inside the church there is the Pieta' dated and signed as follows: Iosephus Donati de/aqla Pinsit 1600. |
